ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Pia Sundhage is stepping down as U.S. Women’s coach. Sundhage will coach the team today (a player with the U.S. told me) as the team begins the “victory tour” to celebrate USA’s gold medal at the London Olympics. The team beat Japan 2-1, the same they lost in the World Cup Final a year ago.
U.S. Soccer’s search for a replacement begins today. Their were rumors of this when the USA played friendlies in Sweden before the team headed over the London Games. Sundhage is a native of Sweden and expressed her desire coach on her home country. Sundhage’s current record is 86-6-10.
