According to reports from Mundo Deportivo , Barcelona star Lionel Messi turned down a transfer move to Russian giants Anzhi Makhachkala after the Russian giants offered a €250 million bid. The Argentine captain was reportedly offered a 560,000 euro-a-week, five year contract but quickly dismissed the advances from the Russian club. The 25-year-old would have earned €30 million per year after tax, which would have made him the highest-paid player in the world. However, Anzhi's marketing consultant German Tkachenko quelled the report, insisting that the mega-rich club have other future sporting goals. "There isn't a shred of truth in it," Tkachenko told Russia newspaper Sport-Express .
