Mexico national coach, Víctor Manuel Vucetich, decided to put an end to the drama about Carlos Vela, Real Sociedad’s forward and his decision to once again not be called for El Tri. Last time, Vucetich spoke about this issue after El Tri’s practice in the High Performance Center (CAR in Spanish) in Mexico City on Tuesday, October 1st. Let’s remember that Mexico national team is training for a second consecutive week with a group of players from Liga MX in order to be mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared to face the last two matches of the CONCACAF final Hexagonal against Panama in Mexico City on October 11th, and Costa Rica in San Jose on October 15th. Vucetich mentioned that Carlos Vela didn’t want to assume the responsibility to be call for El Tri. “We have talked a lot about Carlos Vela and this case is almost closed because in the end he didn’t cover the only two expectations I wanted from him, so we don’t have to talk about him anymore.” Vucetich also reminded Mexico media why he wanted this since the beginning of this project: “I have clearly explained since the beginning that we need soccer players who show commitment with the Mexico national team. This was a requirement we needed in order to call a player” Let’s remember that while in Spain, Carlos Vela gave an interview on September 18th where he talked about everything related to “El Tri”. “I’m waiting for Victor Manuel Vucetich to call me, so I can go and wear the Mexico national team jersey again. For your information, he hasn’t called me yet”, Vela said. “First I have to talk with the new coach, and see what he has in mind for me and the team. Then I will take the decision to compete for Mexico or not”; Vela continued. Ironically, on September 27th when Victor Manuel Vucetich announced the list of players who played overseas, and who were going to be called for the final CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier matches, Hector Gonzáles Iñarritu, Director of Mexico national teams, commented that Carlos Vela contacted him earlier that day. “Today at 9:30 am, Vela sent me a message saying that he wanted to talk to me and I called right away. We talked for a while and he told me that he is not ready come to Mexico national team for now because he thinks he can’t contribute to the group. I just listened to him and accepted his position because we are not going to beg any players to come and play for Mexico”, Iñarritu concluded. We don’t know if Carlos Vela will change his mind, and decides he wants to play for El Tri last minute, but something is certain for Victor Manuel Vucetich – this chapter is closed.
