El Clasico is tomorrow, but the chess match has already begun. Both teams are leaking supposed starting lineups to the media, but we should all know better. Aside from the stars, no one is safe, and in Barcelona’s case, even the stars aren’t that safe to start. Barcelona have been rotating players through all matches to stay fresh towards the end of the season. Madrid has had to use make shift midfield play due to injuries. Despite having Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, the players who will have the most say in this game for Real Madrid will be Angel Di Maria and Isco. Their playmaking from the midfield will be the key to combat Barcelona’s plethora of quality in the middle. Despite Messi’s return to fitness and Neymar’s first Clasico appearance, Barcelona’s steadiness may very well be determined by Fabregas (whether he starts or not) and whoever the other winger to join Neymar and Mess will be (Pedro, Alexis Sanchez, or Cristian Tello). Messi and Ronaldo will get the attention, but at the end of the day, it will be the other stars that determine the outcome at the Camp Nou.
