CFL Expansion Fail

CFL teams are preparing for an expansion draft this off season, in fact it’s the first notable piece of business to happen after the Grey Cup weekend.  On December 16, the newest team to the CFL, the Ottawa RedBlacks, gets to have a 3 round draft that allows them to build a team nucleus through selecting unprotected players off other CFL team rosters.   Each CFL team is allowed...

BC Lions Sent Whimpering Off the Field

The BC Lions were in the position this weekend to upset the Saskatchewan Roughriders and prove my prediction wrong.  However, they didn’t and it’s hard to understand how it all unfolded.  The offence was under the control of starter Travis Lulay, the defense was tenacious and limiting, the special teams was solid and the offensive line held up their end of the bargain as the...

Memo to the BC Lions…What the Buck?

Just Play Pierce After a great start, it’s safe to say that B.C. Lions quarterback Thomas DeMarco has been quickly sent back to Earth. He hasn’t won yet this month and had probably his worst showing of the year against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Oct. 19. DeMarco threw four interceptions and only completed 13 of 31 passes in a game that cost the Lions a home playoff game...

The Buck stops here – Pierce returns to the Lions den

Kind of guy you want to root for Buck Pierce is talented, by all accounts a good teammate, and he’s one of the toughest players on the field. That last point is particularly impressive given how protected quarterbacks are in the modern-day. Pierce is the kind of fearless competitor that I don’t doubt would have played at a high level in the era when quarterbacks got hit like...

Buck Pierce – Second chance to make a first impression

There’s no place like home Who says in the world of sports that you can’t go back home? For 31-year-old, nine-year CFL vet Buck Pierce, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers / BC Lions trade that took place on Monday afternoon has brought the pivot back to where it all started.  Following his four-year career at New Mexico State University, Pierce was nabbed by the Lions as a free agent...

Arland Bruce making much ado about nothing

Former Lions WR out to lunch I’m not really sure what Arland Bruce wants. Maybe a heartfelt card, perhaps some flowers or one of those silver balloons with a “Good Luck” sticker on it. Former Lindenwood star RB Denodus O’Bryant has agreed to terms with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. Werder Bremen midfielder Aaron Hunt has not ruled out leaving the club when his contract expires in 2014 or even earlier.
