Ryan Lochte swims for the fans.  What matters most to him are setting world records, but also giving back to the ones that idolize him.  In an article by the LA Times, the notion of the Olympic swimmer being quite generous is discussed.  Apparently, Lochte gives away his non-Olympic medals to young fans.  His most recent giveaway was after he broke a world record, that he previously set, in a competition in Turkey.  Lochte said, I remember when I was a kid, I looked up to an Olympian superstar.  I won’t mention his name, but I asked for an autograph and he said “no”.  I told my parents that if I ever get in the same position, I’ll do it. And that is what he did.  Ryan Lochte is a man of his words.  Of course, he would not be giving away his prized Olympic gold medals, but any medals he wins goes to his young fans.  He continued on to say, One of the main reasons for racing is because of my fans, so I always want to give something back.  If I took the medal, it would end up in a sock drawer.  If I give it to a fan, they’re going to treasure it.” A great idol and role model Ryan Lochte is.
