Michael Phelps' 2012 Olympics didn't get off to a great start today in a day already filled with surprises at the Aquatics Centre. Phelps recorded the slowest time of all the qualifiers and just got in by seven-hundredths of a second. Phelps said, "That one didn't feel too good." Phelps is the two time defending champion of this event, but only recorded a time of 4:13.33, well off his world record pace that he set at the Beijing Games four years ago. His time bumped off the Hungary's Laszlo Cseh, the defending silver medalist of this event. There were more surprises at the Aquatics Centre this morning when Olympic champion Park Tae-hwan of South Korea. Park won his preliminary heat, but was disqualified for a false start off the blocks. The South Korean delegation has filed a protest with the sport's governing body. Germany's Paul Biedermann, the world record holder in the event, failed to qualify for the finals tonight. Biedermann will miss the Olympic finals for the second straight Olympics. He set the world record in 2009 while using the now banned high-tech body suits.
