Mehmet Okur will join the Utah Jazz as consultant

Mehmet Okur was among the blasts from the Jazz past who returned to Utah to honor Jerry Sloan last week. The retired center hopes to focus on someone else in his next trip to his old NBA stomping grounds. Enes Kanter, have some free time? “I’d like to take him out and talk to him a little bit, see what happens, try to help him a little bit more,” Okur said. “That’s what...

Gordon Hayward calls time with Team USA a ‘confidence booster’

Gordon Hayward signed a large contract extension with the Utah Jazz this summer, and worked hard on trying to improve both his game and his physique. Hayward looks noticeably bigger and stronger, and he told me he put on at least 10 pounds of muscle after one of Team USA’s practices in Chicago. He didn’t make the final cut for the 12-man roster that went to Spain to compete...

Derrick Favors is a grounded guy — and a Utahn

Derrick Favors stretched out on a bleacher at Zions Bank Basketball Center wearing shorts, flip-flops and a Utah Jazz T-shirt. He looked comfortable, at peace with himself and his surroundings. No doubt, the lazy summer afternoon had something to do with it. The middle of July — two months after the end of the regular season and two months before the start of training camp ...

Jazz sign former Knick Toure’ Murry to two-year contract

The Jazz have two promising young point guards – Trey Burke and Dante Exum. But why stop there? In need of a third point guard, as rumored, Utah has turned to 24-year-old Toure’ Murry. The 6-foot-5 Murry broke into the NBA with the Knicks last season, and his size for the position makes him intriguing. He’s obviously not near the level of Burke and Exum, but Murry comes much cheaper.
