Jarmila Gajdosova beat Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 Sunday to give Australia a 1-0 lead over Spain in its Hopman Cup mixed teams tennis match at the Burswood Dome. Lleyton Hewitt will attempt to give Australia a winning 2-0 lead when he plays Fernando Verdasco in the men's singles match, which will be followed by mixed doubles. On Monday, Czech Republic plays Bulgaria and the United States, with Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Mardy Fish, takes on top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki and Frederik Nielsen of Denmark. France beat China 2-1 in the eight-country tournament's opening match Saturday.
