'I told him not to go,' Novak Djokovic’s once-in-a-lifetime invitation was rejected by Alejandro Tabilo

Man of the moment Alejandro Tabilo  had a fairytale of a Masters tournament. The Chilean had a great outing at the Italian Open, with memorable wins on his record. The best one was the win against Novak Djokovic in the third round.

Despite not being the favorite, Tabilo managed to outplay the Serbian in straight sets to register one of the biggest wins in his career. However, there was a noteworthy interaction he had with the Serbian, off-court.

According to reports by La Tercera, Tabilo was approached by the Serbian, who had invited the Chilean to join him ahead of the Italian Open to help train. It was an all-expense paid trip for Tabilo, who got the invitation of a lifetime. Tabilo had just been eliminated from the Madrid Masters but had to reject the offer because his father told him to.

I told him not to go. They were already looking at it. Obviously, it was a success. said Alejandro Tabilo’s father Ricardo

Fortunately, the decision turned in favor of the youngster, who had the best of times at the Italian Open. He beat Djokovic in one of his best results in a Master’s tournament.

Alejandro Tabilo’s dream run ends with a loss against Alexander Zverev at the Italian Open

A mind-blowing week of tennis came to an end for young Alejandro Tabilo . After some phenomenal wins, including a massive upset, the Chilean found himself with a chance to enter the finals. Unfortunately, Alexander Zverev had other plans for the youngster.

Tabilo had done his homework against Zverev, and perfectly executed several shots to start well. In no time, he broke Zverev and was en route to causing another major upset. With perfectly executed drop shots and deadly forehands down the line, Tabilo was slowly booking his spot in the finals.

He was extremely close to and was only a tie-break away from entering his maiden Masters 1000 finals. However, with a crucial win in the tie-break, Zverev forced the match to a third set. In the end, it was the German, who played spoilsport to the Chilean’s dream run by winning 1-6,7-6(4),6-2.

With that, Zverev is back in the finals of the Rome Open for the third time. He awaits the winner of the other semi-finals between Tommy Paul and Nicolas Jarry.
