USTA Eastern will be hosting a 10 and Under Tennis clinic on the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum on February 23 lead by Patrick McEnroe, General Manager of USTA Player Development, former pro and ESPN commentator.
This is the second year for the clinic at the Intrepid and children will get a chance to learn tennis using equipment tailored to their age and size. The event is part of the Museum’s Annual Kids Week, February 18-26, which features dozens of fun, educational and interactive activities for kids during Presidents Week vacation.
“We are very excited to bring 10 and Under Tennis aboard the Intrepid once again,” said Michelle Blake Wilson, Managing Director of Marketing and Communications for USTA Eastern. “And we are fortunate this year to be joined by Patrick McEnroe, who is using the kid-friendly format to train high-performing junior players across the country.”
McEnroe is a leading advocate for USTA 10 and Under Tennis, which is designed around the same concepts as Little League Baseball and other youth sports, all of which use equipment and field/court sizes scaled to the size of young children. The scaled-down equipment and smaller playing fields allow kids to achieve success the first time out—and sustain that success as they continue develop and refine their skills. The 10 and Under Tennis equipment at the clinic is sponsored by Wilson Sporting Goods.
In addition to the clinic, there will also be a wide range of fun on- and off-court activities, including a photo station and raffles every hour for a chance to win kids’ size tennis racquets and free tickets to the BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden. The BNP Paribas Showdown will be held on March 5 and feature Andy Roddick vs. Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova vs. Caroline Wozniacki.
The Intrepid is located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue) in Manhattan. It is open Tuesday through Sunday, Tuesday – Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm.
