Down 2-1 in sets and on the verge of elimination, Andy Murray received a huge roar from his hometown crowd trying to will him to victory and help him become the first British tennis player to win the mens singles championship in 74 years. Murray and the hometown crowd will have to wait at least another year as Roger Federer won his 7th Wimbledon title yesterday and tied Pete Sampras for the most career Wimbledon titles. Murray was able to grab the first set and played dominantly in the first couple games in the 2nd set, but Federer was able to take over in the middle of the second set and win three straight sets to take home the 2012 Wimbledon Championship trophy.

As soon as Federer won the last point of the match, emotions kicked in for both players. Although Federer talked earlier in the week about how his 7th win wouldn’t be any different from the rest of his victories, it was obvious what tying his childhood idol meant to him. After Murray’s last shot went wide left, Federer dove at the ground and pumped his fists in jubilation. He also wiped tears of joy from his eyes multiple times during the closing ceremony. Murray showed his emotions when he took the mic to talk about grabbing the runner-up spot. It was apparent how much of his heart and soul he put into this tournament and how much he wanted to win his first grand slam title for himself and for his country. Check out the highlights from their Wimbledon Finals match-up below...
