This year’s TNA Genesis PPV was a night of retained Championships. Chavo & Hernandez, RVD and Jeff Hardy all went in to the event with a belt and they all left still holding the gold. Results: - WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez def. Matt Morgan & Joey Ryan, after Chavo hit the Frog Splash on Ryan. - Mr. Anderson def. Samoa Joe, after an Aces and Eights member distracted Joe and Anderson hit the mic check. Fans and fellow stars wanted answers on Impact, but it’s still not clear if the self-professed A**Hole is working with the outlaw MC or just himself. - FINALS OF THE X TOURNAMENT: The cocky rookie Kenny King was seemingly humbled tonight as the veteran Christian York advanced to face RVD, but before York could leave the ring, King made sure he wasn’t in fighting condition. - X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP: Rob Van Dam def. Christian York with the 5 Star Frog Splash. - Despite snapping and channeling his brother Abyss, the mean streak didn’t last and Devon managed to get the victory over Joseph Park. - Velvet Sky def. Gail Kim, Miss Tessmacher, ODB and Mickie James, in a Knockouts Gauntlet Match for the #1 Contender. The ending was controversial as Gail Kim’s foot was under the ropes. - Christopher Daniels def. James Storm, earning a World Title match on the January 24 IMPACT. In the closing seconds Storm was distracted by Kazarian and Daniels only got the pin when he used the ropes for leverage. - “The Icon” Sting def. D.O.C. from Aces and Eights. After the match it looked like Sting would be taken out by club, but Bull Ray made the save. - World Heavyweight Title Match: Jeff Hardy def. Austin Aries and Bobby Roode to retain. Roode was first to be eliminated after Aries went for the pin and Hardy assisted. Hardy was then able to hit the Swanton on Aries for the win. Thoughts: - Bit of an anti-climax (no sleaze intended) for Matt Morgan and Joey Ryan. There is nothing original or exciting about Chavo and Hernandez and I was sure the odd couple would get the belts. I guess the logic may be that Morgan and Ryan don’t need the belts. - Other than the X Division angle and the main event the rest of the card was pretty bland. While I’m more of a fan of Aces & Eights than most, their members are very samey when it comes to ring work. They’re all big guys wearing jeans and have yet to bring us a quality PPV level match. - Moving Daniels to the main event is a logical choice…other than James Storm there isn’t really anyone else on the roster who can get it done in the ring and on the mic at a main event level.
