Ammo Williams secured his second consecutive victory with a high-volume, precise performance, earning a unanimous decision over Canadian Patrice Volny on Saturday night at Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida, live on DAZN. The judges scored it 118-110, 116-112, and 115-113, all in favor of Williams.

Williams dictated the pace in the opening two rounds behind his jab. In the third, he targeted Volny’s midsection to force him to lower his high guard, finally breaking through in the final minute.

Volny responded well in the fourth and fifth rounds, doing enough to edge them. Both fighters engaged in a competitive sixth round, with Volny landing a clean lead right to the chin. However, Williams turned the tide in the final moments, stunning Volny with a left.

The seventh round remained close, with Williams using body shots to open up Volny’s defense before connecting upstairs. In the tenth, Williams punctuated his performance with a sharp right hook to Volny’s chin.

In the eleventh round, Williams edged out a close frame, stunning Volny with a lead left to the chin in the final minute. He closed strong in the twelfth, dominating with a flurry of body shots while Volny managed to land a few punches of his own.

With the victory, Williams improved to 18-1 with 12 KOs, solidifying his position in the middleweight division.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is aiming to secure a world title opportunity for Williams against one of the division’s champions. However, Hearn acknowledged that Ammo (18-1, 12 KOs) will “have to be better” than he was against Volny (19-2, 13 KOs). While the bout seemed competitive enough to be a draw, the judges handed Williams the decision with scores that didn’t quite reflect the action in the ring.

Williams may need to improve his punching power, as his current output doesn’t seem strong enough to trouble the division’s elite. Even if he were to drop to 154 pounds, he could still find himself outmatched.

“He got a good win tonight. He’s making money. Life is coming together. Sometimes life can spiral out of control, and you just need it to come together. I feel that’s what’s happening with Ammo,” said Eddie Hearn to Boxing Social.

In reality, the fight indicated that Ammo isn’t yet prepared for a world title shot and has shown little progress since being stopped in the eleventh round by Hamzah Sheeraz on June 1st last year.

“I’m really proud of Ammo. That was a really coming of age performance. Sometimes, Ammo is quite raw and crude with his work because he’s quite inexperienced. I thought that was a mature performance tonight and also going 12 rounds,” said Hearn.

“He’s a personal project of mine, and I want to see him right. I want to see him do well. I really believe a shot at a world middleweight title will come this year. Whether he can win it, he’ll have to be better. I do believe Ammo is a world class middleweight, but he’s got to make improvements if he’s going to go in there and beat a Lara, Adames or Janibek.

“For now, tonight was about get that win against Volny. Now, you can move on to bigger paydays, and bigger opportunities. I think he’ll stay on it now. He has good support at home.
