A horrible car wreck in Nigeria earlier this week sent boxing megastar Anthony Joshua to the hospital but killed two of his trainers. Fortunately, Joshua appears to be mending.

According to TMZ Sports, Joshua has been released from the hospital following the wreck. He was discharged late-Wednesday afternoon and will continue his recovery at home. Joshua had been under observation at a hospital in Lagos ever since the Monday crash.

Joshua was in the backseat of a car that crashed into a stationary truck on the expressway. The crash claimed the lives of his strength & conditioning coach Sina Ghami and his trainer Latif Ayodele.

Following his release from the hospital, Joshua and his mother reportedly went to a funeral home to pay their respects to Ghami and Ayodele.

Anthony Joshua's Career

Turning professional in 2013, Joshua quickly became one of boxing’s biggest stars, capturing the IBF heavyweight title in 2016 and later adding the WBA and WBO titles to become a unified heavyweight champion. Known for his combination of size, athleticism, and knockout power, Joshua scored high-profile victories over fighters such as Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker, and Alexander Povetkin.

But Joshua’s career has also featured notable setbacks, including a shocking upset loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019, followed by a decisive rematch victory later that year to reclaim his titles. He later lost his unified belts to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and again in their 2022 rematch, prompting a period of rebuilding and stylistic evolution. Despite championship losses, Joshua has remained one of boxing’s most marketable and influential figures.

This month he took on YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul, who owned a number of high-profile wins. But Joshua knocked him down several times before delivering a knockout blow in the sixth round for his first win in over a year.
