Canelo Alvarez linked to Chris Eubank Jr. showdown in the UK

Enjoying an impressive run against British competition during his gold-laden career, Canelo has turned in notable victories over the likes of Billy Joe Saunders, Callum and Liam Smith, Matthew Hatton and Amir Khan during his numerous title runs.

However, a British star so far failing to share the ring with Canelo is incoming headliner Chris Eubank Jr., who rematches arch-rival Conor Benn in November as part of the pair’s two-fight series.

And if he can defeat Benn once more in their rematch, Eubank Jr.’s promoter has confirmed plans to lure Canelo to the United Kingdom to compete for the first time atop a spectacular card at Wembley Stadium.

“I think he [Canelo Alvarez is] the fight,” Ben Shalom told ESPN. “Canelo has never fought in the UK, the biggest star in boxing, and you’ve got the biggest star in UK boxing [Chris Eubank Jr.], the only one that could make sense for Canelo really.

“I think it [the fight] sells out Wembley. I think it’s one of the biggest fights that you could possibly make in world boxing,” Shalom explained. “Chris is focused on November 15th then we can look at that fight.”

Suffering his first-ever defeat at 168lbs, Canelo had previously dropped a light heavyweight loss to Dmitry Bivol, as well as his memorable light middleweight defeat to Floyd Mayweather, 12 years ago.

And failing to earn the opportunity to avenge those losses, Canelo may miss out on a chance to fight Crawford again, with the Nebraska native not entirely sold on an immediate rematch with the Mexican megastar.

Furthermore, Crawford has already been urged to take on a common foe in his return to the ring in a bid to make more history inside the squared circle.
