Chris Eubank Jr (35-3, 25 KOs) is gearing up to test his mettle against Conor Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) once again, as the second chapter of their all-British legacy showdown draws closer. However, the days leading up to fight night has seen a rather cold and emotionless version of Eubank Jr, which is very unlike him.

In conversation with Boxing King Media, Eubank Jr admitted that his apathetic outlook was due to the type of people that he had to deal with during his career.

“21 years of being surrounded by savages, barbarians, animals, people looking to use you, hurt you, abuse you. That is the reality of many of the environments you find yourself in the boxing world,” he said.

While he hasn’t named any individuals or situations in particular, it is most certainly a slow-burning spiral of the multiple curveballs that life threw at him. Be it the dysfunctional relationship that he shared with his father, Eubank Sr, during his childhood, or the pressure of his legacy and his disillusionment of the boxing world. He has explicitly spoken about how cutthroat the world of boxing is, revealing that he was constantly taken advantage of.

Despite all this, Eubank Jr has never let all this affect his demeanour, until now, that is. In fact, this is a stark contrast to how he was in the days leading up to the first fight, jovial and enjoying all the pre-fight events.

Eubank Jr stressed that it was important for him to keep his emotions hidden, lest it be used against him.

“That stripped me of my emotion. I learned that you can’t be emotional in this world because people will take that emotion and use it against you. Once I saw that, because you see that happening to guys all the time. Once I understood that, I was cold. It’s all business,” he said.

“I Don’t Get Emotional”

While he has been taken advantage of and walked over, Eubank Jr does not wish to point any fingers. Talking in the same interview, he revealed that he doesn’t blame anyone but himself.

“Even when people screw me over now, I don’t get emotional. I expect it. I get angry at myself. Of course, they’ve screwed you over in this spot. Of course, they did that. Of course, they used you here,” he said. “Of course, they took advantage of you here. That’s why they’re supposed to do. You should have known it. You can’t have emotion in this sport. That’s why I don’t have any friends in this industry. All my friends are outside of the boxing world.”
