Crawford Shuts Down Training Camp For Canelo Showdown

Terence Crawford has closed his training camp to all visitors and interviews ahead of his September 13 Undisputed Super Middleweight Title fight against Canelo Alvarez

The fight is a huge challenge for the 37-year-old Crawford, who holds a record of 41-0 with 31 knockouts. He is moving up two weight classes, from 154 pounds to 168 pounds, to face Alvarez on Mexican Independence Day weekend.

According to a source in his camp, Crawford and his team are determined to avoid the mistakes made by other fighters who have moved up to challenge Canelo, such as Jermell Charlo and Jaime Munguia. Both Charlo and Munguia bulked up for the fight but seemed to lose their natural speed, which Canelo exploited.

Crawford’s training is focused on maintaining his explosive power and the ability to switch his stance to a southpaw. He plans to use his movement to counter Alvarez’s deliberate, powerful style, much like he did against Errol Spence Jr.

Crawford’s Camp

A closed camp can be a form of psychological warfare. Crawford prevents the Canelo team from gathering any data on his physical condition, sparring partners, or adjustments. The move also reduces the ability of the Canelo camp to use moles, something other fighters have done to leak information from the opposing side’s camp.

A victory would make him an undefeated five-division champion, with world titles ranging from lightweight to super middleweight and also become a three-weight undisputed champion. Crawford’s camp were confident of making history.

“Listen, I get a lot of texts asking how I’m doing, how camp is going. So, I figured I could just put it up in one post. So, I’m in the mountains. This dude is about to beat the brakes off Canelo and be the greatest boxer of all time. And I get to play a part in it. All is well. Truly well. We good. I’m good. I’m real good,” Chet Fortune (Crawford’s strength and conditioning coach)
