The scheduled main event between Keshawn Davis vs Edwin De Los Santois Saturday night in Norfolk, VA was called off. Unfortunately Keshawn Davis lost his WBO lightweight championship on the scales. He came in at 139.3 pounds on the scale, four pounds over the 135 limit.
“We renegotiated 10 pounds, plus money, but we concluded that Davis never tried to make weight,” Lewkowicz told ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez. “He came dancing to the scale. I didn’t want what happened to Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia to happen. We canceled the fight.”

Clearly the aftermath of the Ryan Garcia vs Devin Haney fight, boxers are reluctant to risk being at such a stark disadvantage entering the ring. four pounds is a huge difference in the ring. Besides that’s another weight class which isn’t what you signed up for when you signed your contract to fight. Also prioritizing your health isn’t worth any amount of money and that definitely is the stance that is being displayed here. Unlike Haney, De La Santos wasn’t going to be a weight bully victim. But you can clearly not fault his camp for negating the risk.
Abdullah Mason’s lightweight fight with Jeremia Nakathila was elevated to the main event on Saturday’s card. Mason stopped Nakathila by TKO in the 4th round. Nakathila corner stopped the fight after the referee came over to check on the fighter.
Davis is done with 135, he said that the weight has become too difficult to make it and was going to move up in weight after this fight.
“I outgrew the weight,” Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) said. “I’ve been making this weight for four years now. I was up late last night and early this morning trying to make the weight, but I outgrew it.”
Despite the explanation, it’s pretty clear that he definitely threw in the towel to make weight. But with 135 in his rear view, there’s a lot of good fights to be made at 140. With Gervanta ‘Tank’ Davis, Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez, just to name a few. Without a doubt there will be action waiting for him there.
