Deontay Wilder will return to the ring in Kansas in June against 24-5 Tyrrell Herndon.

Deontay Wilder hopes to revive his career after one win in his last four fights with a win over Tyrrell Herndon, a lower-level heavyweight who last won by split decision against an opponent with just seven victories.

Herndon also lost to Efe Ajagba in Ajagba’s pro debut, and has only faced two other names of note, rising prospect Richard Torrez Jr. and Chris Billam-Smith‘s latest cruiserweight opponent.

Tyrrell Herndon was disqualified against Brandon Glanton years before landing the Deontay Wilder fight

Herndon, a Texas native, faced 4-0 Glanton in 2018 in San Antonio, and went three of the scheduled four rounds with his ‘Bulletproof’ opponent before being disqualified, marking his third career defeat.

It is hard to find what Herndon did to get disqualified, and it is not something either man seem to have spoken about since.

Glanton went on to win the WBO international title, but fell short in his step up against former world champion Chris Billam-Smith.

Glanton became a controversial character when he threatened to give Billam-Smith brain damage ahead of their fight, which landed on the undercard of Chris Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn.

He has since apologized for his comments and earned the respect of Smith and of fans as he gave a good account of himself against the British high-level operator. Glanton and Billam-Smith apologized to one another for the tense build-up to their fight in the ring.

Tyrrell Herndon’s last three wins indicate how the Deontay Wilder fight may pan out

In Herndon’s last three fights, he defeated one opponent via stoppage and two via split decision.

His last win came against 7-0-1 Rudy Silvas, whilst his previous split decision win came shockingly against an opponent with a losing record – 8-9 Miree Coleman.

The opponent he was able to stop was 7-3 Daniel Gonzalez.

With Herndon scraping victories against such low-level opponents, it’s hard to see any outcome other than a win for Wilder, who had a 32-fight KO streak, even if he is past his best.
