Devin Haney Dismisses Brian Norman Jr As A Threat
Henrietta Wildsmith/The Times

With all of the big names from 147 moving on. Brian Norman Jr. has done more than enough to be considered the top dog at welterweight. Each of his last three opponents entered the ring full of confidence. Each left needing medical attention. But Devin Haney, the two division world champion and undefeated technician, isn’t fazed by the punishing power he’s set to face.

The two will collide in one of the marquee matchups on the ‘Ring IV’ card, taking place November 22 at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia a venue quickly becoming synonymous with high stakes combat.

Norman (28-0, 22 KOs) is coming off a brutal knockout win over Jin Sasaki, who left the Ota-City General Gymnasium on a stretcher after a vicious fifth round. The Atlanta native has carved out a reputation as one of the division’s most punishing finishers a relentless force who turns confident challengers into humbled survivors.

Building block?

But Haney sees it differently. “Brian Norman is just another opponent,” Haney told The Ring. “He’s just another stepping stone.”

That confidence is classic Haney (32-0, 15 KOs), who, despite criticism for his last performance  a tactical decision win over Jose Ramirez in May remains one of boxing’s most accomplished young stars. That New York City return, while lacking fireworks, shook off a year of rust after the turbulent and controversial bout against Ryan Garcia in April 2024.

Now 26, Haney is preparing for his welterweight debut, and the chance to become a three division world champion. With his immaculate skill set, iron discipline, and growing resume, the Vegas based fighter believes this next step is inevitable.

“I’m excited to be a three-division champion,” Haney said. “God willing.”

Now, he wants to add Norman’s WBO welterweight world title to the collection and cap off 2025 in style. Norman will be the biggest puncher Haney has faced, and perhaps the most dangerous threat to his undefeated record. But with less than four months until fight night, Haney’s mindset is clear. This isn’t just another fight it’s legacy building.
