Eddie Hearn has endured an eventful 2025 thus far, with disappointing setbacks, with Justis Huni and Johnny Fisher losing. Hearn continues to match his fighters up with evenly matched opponents, which is to be applauded. Richardson Hitchins (20-0, 8 KOs) has been promoted well by Matchroom and recently defended his IBF super lightweight title against George Kambosos Jr. Hitchins quickly commented after the fight that he was now a promotional free agent, and Hearn has spoken to Boxing Social, lifting the lid on his relationship with Hitchins’ manager Keith Connolly.
Speaking to BoxingScene, Hearn made it clear he was unhappy with Team Hitchins: “Richardson is a good kid. He’s just got some snakes around him and those snakes will make you feel like they’re your guy. But the reality is, they’re bloodsuckers. Certain individuals take a bigger percentage or the same percentage as the promoter who is bankrolling you and paying for your entire path in the sport and making the investment.”
More recently Eddie Hearn spoke to Boxing Social and revealed his strained relationship with Hitchins’ manager Connolly: “My relationship with Keith (Connoly) is not good. Not good at all. I don’t like the way he operates. I’m not saying he’s not a good manager. I think he is in some situations, but people change.
“I see a lot of what happens behind the scenes with demands and this and that. Me and Keith can work things out. But, when that happens, and you know, Keith is the one who told him to say it, obviously you’re going to react in a certain way,” said Hearn.
Hearn made it clear the type of people he wants to work with: “I don’t need to be working with people who are gonna treat me like that. But who knows what the future holds, do you know what I mean? Obviously, we work with all managers and I’ll always work with them. It’s not a case of I will never work with that manager again, but you always want to work with people that you enjoy working with and you feel they respect the job that you’ve done as well.”
