PA Images/Alamy Images

On April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Chris Eubank Jr defeated Conor Benn in their highly anticipated rematch by unanimous decision with the scorecards reading 116-112 x3. Following the fight, attention quickly turned to a potential rematch, with both sides revealing discussions were ongoing. When speaking to Poker Strategy, Carl Froch reflected on the fight and gave his honest opinion on the rumoured rematch.

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn: Carl Froch Reflects on April 26

Froch Not Convinced Eubank vs Benn 2 Should Happen

Following their memorable ring walks, the action got underway. Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) worked well off his jab in the opening two rounds, but the cleaner work came from Eubank. As the rounds went by Eubank began to establish his jab and control the distance. Despite this, Benn was still dangerous, landing the heavier punches.

Benn seemed to hurt Eubank in the eighth, with both fighters letting their hands go, while continually exchanging pleasantries. There was plenty of back-and-forth action over the final few rounds, including a final round where both threw bomb after bomb. Eubank Jr (35-3, 25 KOs) ultimately did enough to earn the decision.

While many have called for the rematch, Carl Froch is not convinced we need to see it: “It was an entertaining fight. It was edge of the seat stuff, especially towards the end when Eubank sort of got in front of Conor Benn and just opted to stand still, I was impressed and thought it was good performance from both of the guys.

“Conor Benn didn’t deserve to win so the right man won. I’m not sure the rematch should even be a thing. The first match was great. But we’ve seen it. Now we know what’s gonna happen.”

Report: Bears' Ben Johnson screamed at Caleb Williams during training camp

There is no ramp-up period for the Chicago Bears at training camp this year. Head coach Ben Johnson brought the same intensity he harbored during OTAs at the Bears’ first practice of training camp Wednesday at Halas Hall in Lake Forest, Illinois. Adam Hoge of CHGO Bears said that Johnson was upset with Williams and the offense multiple times on Wednesday. He got into the face of the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft during a seven-on-seven drill. “Accountability is what I’m talking about, though, because, look, it was like a three-strike thing, let’s call three strikes, and you’re out all right,” Hoge said on the CHGO podcast. “Because we saw Ben get in Caleb’s, you know what, during seven-on-sevens about something. I don’t know what it was about, but he wasn’t happy, and he was screaming at him, alright.” Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson tried to show patience Johnson tried to show patience with the second mistake, when there was a miscommunication with the wide receivers getting lined up. He let Williams and the receivers sort the issue out before the play. But Johnson didn’t stand idly on the third pre-snap mistake; another miscommunication between Williams and the receivers. Johnson pulled the entire first-team off the field in favor of the second-team led by veteran quarterback Case Keenum. Caleb Williams is picking up where he left off in OTAs Per multiple reports, the Bears’ offense had a poor day. Mark Carman called Williams’ performance on Wednesday the worst part of practice. “Today was just bad,” Carman said. “They had to pull the offense off the field. (Williams) wasn’t getting them lined up. It might not have been his fault every single time he’s his first pass was picked off (by linebacker Tremaine Edmunds). “He rolled right on long play, Cold Kmet’s wide open right in front of him. He ended up running out of bounds. It just wasn’t a good day for the quarterback.” Williams didn’t have a great spring. He struggled with every duty from calling the play in the huddle to getting the cadence right to throwing the ball into the middle of the field or further than 10 yards. As of Day 1 at camp, all of those things are still problems. But at least the $13 million per year head coach is mad.

Rafael Devers had telling comment about playing first base

Rafael Devers played first base for the San Francisco Giants for the first time on Tuesday, and his quote about playing the field likely will not sit well with Boston Red Sox fans. Devers said after Tuesday’s game that he prefers playing in the field as opposed to serving as a designated hitter. “It keeps me active. It keeps my head out of just thinking about the next at-bat,” Devers said, via Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle. “I’d rather be on the field than in the cage hitting all the time and thinking about the next at-bat.” Devers, of course, refused to play first base for the Red Sox after they asked him to. He felt disrespected after they moved him off third base to accommodate Alex Bregman, and thought the team went back on its word by later asking him to play first. To Red Sox fans, if Devers is best playing in the field and playing first would have helped the team, it will be baffling why he did not just do it when that would seemingly have been a preferable outcome for all involved. Devers went 2-for-5 in Tuesday’s 9-0 win over the Atlanta Braves, driving in a run in his first appearance at first base. It remains unclear how frequently the Giants plan to use him at the position, but the team might take note of these comments.

Jaxson Dart had worst start imaginable at Giants training camp

Jaxson Dart had worst start imaginable at Giants training camp

The New York Giants officially opened training camp on Wednesday, and the good news for Jaxson Dart was that the rookie had nowhere to go but up after his first play of practice. Dart’s very first pass of 11-on-11 drills was intercepted by third-year cornerback Nic Jones. Dart stared his receiver down the entire way, and Jones showed the former Ole Miss star why doing so in the NFL is never a good idea. The whistle blew after the interception, but Jones would have taken it the other way for a touchdown had the play been live. Like any rookie quarterback, Dart is going to make plenty more mistakes in training camp. Brian Daboll and the Giants’ coaching staff will be more interested in how Dart bounces back from them. The Giants traded up to select Dart in the first round and are very high on his ability. They plan to bring him along slowly, which Daboll seemed to reiterate again on Wednesday. Dart led the SEC with 4,279 passing yards last season. He threw 29 touchdown passes and is known for having a strong arm, but throwing windows get significantly tighter in the NFL. Dart will learn that as he gains more experience.

Aaron Boone ejection signals struggles are pushing him to breaking point

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone keeps losing his grip. After defending Yankee players for not showing enough emotion during losses in a recent podcast interview, the manager had another outburst in Wednesday's road game against the Toronto Blue Jays. At the top of the seventh inning, Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe was called out on a strike, despite the ball looking well above the zone. Home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez subsequently ejected Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake for arguing the call. After that, Boone stepped in. Boone walked out of the dugout and let Gonzalez have a piece of his mind even after being ejected. Frustration had been mounting for Boone. Gonzalez had already missed a strike three call in the top of the third inning but apologized for it. The Yankees were also trailing, 6-4, when he was ejected. They didn't come back from that deficit as Toronto won, 8-4, capturing the second game of the three-game series against New York. Attribute the loss to an atrocious defensive performance from the Yankees. They committed four errors, two of which allowed the Blue Jays to score runs. With the loss, the Yankees' chances of winning the American League East are slipping. Toronto (60-42) is first in the division ahead of New York (56-46). If the playoffs started Wednesday night, the Bronx Bombers would have the first AL wild-card spot. Even more concerning for the Yankees, they haven't looked like a World Series contender over their past 10 games, going 5-5. With 60 regular-season games remaining, the Yankees still have plenty of time to get their act together. Still, they should do it soon for Boone's sake. He seems like he's reaching his breaking point.
