From Dreams To Titles: Lauren Price's Story

“Too young, too quick, too good,” said the Welsh boxer in vehemence to Natasha Jonas in a Sky Sports boxing YouTube channel engagement. Price, a professional boxer now 30, is referred to by the nickname “Lucky One.” This is because of her rise to being a professional in boxing. On 7 March 2025, she's set to give the best of her southpaw stance at York Hall in London, United Kingdom, in the quest for WBC, IBF and WBA welterweight titles.

“I believe she's my toughest test so far.” Price said this in a dialogue between her, Lauren, and sky sports expert Johnny Nelson on the sky sports YouTube channel. Such an expression does not mean she is a coward but poses a challenge for her to work on herself to be fit to challenge at the top.

Price took up her boxing career as a teenager. Nicola Adams became her model and fueled her involvement in boxing after she saw her win gold in the 2012 summer Olympic in London. At age 8, she already knew she wanted three things: To play football for Wales, become a world champion kickboxer and finally win Gold at the Olympics. Justly so, she has lived in her dreams through her guardians' support and her mental strength. Her grandparents, Derek and Linda, started her upbringing at the age of just three days and took her as their own.

Being a hyperactive child was the main reason her grandparents took her to sports at a young age. Later, she made them proud by her performance in sports activities, she became a local celebrity in the Welsh valley, the village of Ystrad Mynach. Mr. Derek first took her to join a local athletics club, but she faced a setback as they said she was too young. Luckily, she got a chance in football through the friends Derek knew in his days as Pengam club coach. Price's first club was Fleur de Lys, which was funded by the national lottery, and from then, she has moved from greatness to greatness. Kickboxing is also part of her history, and her grandfather influenced it.

Still an amateur, Lauren Price etched her name on history books as the first Welsh woman ever to get a medal in the Commonwealth games in women’s middleweight. This was in the year 2014 when he shined against Kaye Scott in the quarterfinals and got a bronze. She also made history in her professional career on 6th May 2023 in the first British women's fight, thus, she was the first British woman to win the Lonsdale belt. Other world great titles the lucky one is known for include WBA, IBO and ring. She earned them last year in a fight with Jessica McCaskill on March 4th by unanimous decision and made a defense on them the same year. As a champion, she is. She won her first defense of the titles on 14th December 2024 in Liverpool, England, against Bexcy Mateus.

Fans are eager to see how she will rise to face her Natasha Jonas and prove that she is not just a “lucky one” but a real victor with the mental fortitude and skills to dominate at the highest level. Price's story can inspire the next generation of athletes through the power that dreams hold and perseverance.
