The flyweight division welcomes an intriguing matchup this Saturday as rising British prospect Hamza “Thriller” Uddin takes on Paul Roberts for the English flyweight title at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena.
Uddin (5-0, 3 KO’s) has emerged as one of Britain’s most promising flyweights. The Walsall-born boxer has carried his strong amateur foundation seamlessly into the professional ranks, showing sharp movement, composure, and improving punching power.
Roberts (7-6-2, 2 KO’s) has faced a long list of British prospects over the years, often going the distance and testing their resolve. While he lacks knockout power, he’s a cagey professional with solid fundamentals and enough ring smarts to frustrate younger opponents who get careless.

This matchup pits youth against experience and hunger against IQ. Uddin will look to control the centre of the ring and dictate tempo, using his quick jab to set up combinations and attack Roberts’ body. He’s a clean, composed puncher who breaks opponents down over time rather than swinging wildly for knockouts.
Roberts, meanwhile, will likely aim to slow the pace, frustrate Uddin, and take him into the later rounds. His defensive instincts and composure under pressure could make the early rounds competitive, but his low output and lack of power limit his chances of stealing rounds decisively.
Uddin is another one of those British fighters that for whatever reason is going under the radar. Perhaps it’s because for boxing casuals, they tend not to pay much attention to the smaller weight classes. But for me, it’s these weight divisions that often bring out the best matchups.
Another reason that he is flying under the radar could be because he has quite a loudmouth fighter from the same region in fellow Walsall-born Ben Whittaker, who of course knows how to grab the attention of the media and casual fans alike.
Bookmakers have Uddin as a heavy favourite, generally priced around 1/10, reflecting his growing reputation and superior form. Roberts offers experience and ring craft, but Hamza Uddin’s precision, footwork, and youth should dominate proceedings.
I expect a composed, professional display from Uddin, capped by a late stoppage as Roberts’ energy, guard and resistance fades. On that note, I’m taking Hamza Uddin to win the fight in rounds 6-10 at odds of 2.63.
