How Can Jake Paul Win A World Title?
Image Press Agency

Jake Paul boxes Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in his next fight on June 28 as we look at how he can win a world title.

Paul enters into this fight with a victory over Mike Tyson. The performance showed little in Paul’s boxing skills since Tyson was past his prime. The latter entered the fight as a 57-year-old who had not boxed professionally since 2005 while also wearing a compression sleeve on his knee. Paul has boxed a large number of non-pro boxers, having beaten the likes of Nate Diaz, Ben Askren and Anderson Silva. Paul lost a fight against the pro boxer Tommy Fury, who many consider unlikely to win a world title. However, since Paul offers boxers the chance to earn lucrative paydays, he could position himself into a world title shot. Here is who he could target.

He could face off against Zurdo Ramirez. The latter recently unified the division by beating Chris Billam-Smith in his last fight. His only loss came against the eventual Undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion Dmitry Bivol, as Ramirez has racked up a 47-1 record. Ramirez will defend his titles against Yuriel Dorticos on the Paul vs. Chavez card, as that fight could happen later down the line if Paul gets a ranking.

Another option is to face Badou Jack. Jack is the WBC Cruiserweight Champion who is at the latter end of his career. The 41-year-old secured the title after beating Ilunga Junior Makabu for the vacant belt. He successfully defended the title against Norair Mikaeljan in a majority decision this year. However, Mikaeljan’s camp disputed the decision, resulting in the WBC ordering an immediate rematch. If Jack fails to go ahead with it, he will be stripped of the title.

There is an outside chance that Paul could target the WBC belt at bridgerweight. The weight class is just below heavyweight, where the current champion is Kevin Lerena. He has a 31-3-0 record, with losses against Daniel Dubois, Justis Huni and Johnny Muller. However, at 33, Lerena still has plenty to give in the sport. He has won three of his last four fights, most recently defeating Serhiy Radchenko. It will be tough for Paul to get a world title, as Floyd Mayweather had doubts over his chances.

Jake Paul, as of right now for what he’s doing it’s good for what he’s doing, but when it’s time to fight an actual real fighter, it’s gonna be bad! But one think I like about him, one thing I do is that he’s selling it and he’s making good money and he’s entertaining, I like that. As long as he continues to fight MMA guys ant YouTubers then he’s going to continue to look good and shine, but once he fights a real fighter, a real fighter that can really fight, then it’s not going to be that good,” Mayweather said
