Itauma Fights Hrgovic For Vacant IBF Heavyweight Title

Moses Itauma will fight Filip Hrgovic for the vacant IBF heavyweight championship, ESPN reports, transforming their scheduled clash into a world title opportunity.

The 19-year-old British prospect was already set to face the Croatian contender before the IBF belt became available. Itauma enters with a perfect 11-0 record, having stopped his last five opponents inside the distance.

Hrgovic's Path Back To Championship Contention

Hrgovic, a 2016 Olympic bronze medalist, previously held the IBF interim heavyweight strap before losing to Daniel Dubois last June via fifth-round stoppage. The 32-year-old brings a 18-1 professional record into the title fight.

The IBF vacancy came after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished the belt to focus on his undisputed rematch with Tyson Fury. Dubois subsequently won the full IBF title but later vacated, creating the opening now contested by Itauma and Hrgovic.

No official fight date has been announced for the heavyweight title bout.
