At the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA, on June 28, Jake Paul vs Chavez Jr will headline a Most Valuable Promotions event in association with CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy and Golden Boy Promotions. In the co-main event, we will see WBO & WBA unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez face Yuniel Dorticós. Ahead of the main event, former multi-weight world champion Roy Jones Jr has broken down Jake Paul vs Chavez Jr to Prime Casino, revealing the likely winner.
Jake Paul vs Chavez will be Paul’s first fight since his high-profile victory over Mike Tyson, which captured the attention of millions worldwide. It remains to be seen how much desire and ability Chavez Jr (54-6-1, 34 KOs) still has, especially after competing at a high level against top fighters like Canelo Alvarez and Sergio Martinez.
Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) has demonstrated significant power in his fights. Interestingly, both fighters share a common opponent, Anderson Silva. Chavez jr lost to Silva by unanimous decision, while Paul defeated Silva by unanimous decision.
Many are backing Paul to defeat the ageing Chavez, and Roy Jones Jr is backing “El Gallo:” “Chavez Jr wasn’t the same after the Sergio Martinez fight. I think that fight might have taken a lot out of him. So at that point I don’t think he ever was the same, but he was a good fighter at one time, and all good fighters have a chance to show up one night because somewhere down in him there is a good fighter.
“Whether he can find it or not for the Jake Paul fight, we don’t know. But I think Jake should probably take him out, mainly because Jake beat Anderson Silva. And Silva beat Chavez,” added Jones.
Talking about the power of Paul, Jones said: “Sometimes it’s a triangle, sometimes it goes like that. But from what I’m seeing right now, I think Jake beats him because Jake’s bigger, Jake’s used to fighting more at that weight, and I think Jake just has more vigor right now, and will want to win more than Chavez does.”
