On October 11, the Jaron ‘Boots” Ennis show returns to Philadelphia, but this time as a junior middleweight.
Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) will be headlining the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA, against Uisma Lima (14-1, 10 KOs), which will be a final eliminator for the WBA junior middleweight title. The event will stream live on DAZN as Ennis looks to move on to bigger fights in a division that is loaded with talent.
Ennis has been under heavy scrutiny as word leaked out online in the last couple of weeks that he turned down a big fight with Vergil Ortiz Jr., which would have been a Turki Alalshikh card because he supposedly needed two tune-up fights. There was no comment about that from Ennis’ promoter Eddie Hearn until a new deal between Ennis and Matchroom was complete. That is when Hearn said Ennis would fight a tune-up in October and then would fight Ortiz in January or February. Ortiz’s team quickly rebutted those comments, saying no such fight has been agreed to. For now, what is certain is that Ennis will fight Lima on October 11.
Ennis’ opponent, Lima, is on a four-fight win streak after losing to Aaron McKenna in June 2023. There are questions surrounding the fact that the #10 ranked WBA fighter is in a final title eliminator when there are nine other fighters underneath him who are just as qualified. Questions that are unlikely to be answered soon, but if it is, FightsATW will update the story.
Here are quotes from the two fighters and Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn:
JARON ENNIS
“They can say what they want it don’t make me a difference. These dudes can’t tie my shoes. I’m the best in the world and they know it! I want all the big names and belts – THE TOUR CONTINUES.”
UISMA LIMA
“I am very excited to be taking on the biggest challenge of my life against a legit, World-level fighter in Ennis. I believe in myself, I want to thank my team for everything they have done and on October 11 we will be coming to war. Please don’t take me lightly, Boots, as I am coming to win.”
EDDIE HEARN
“I cannot wait to see Boots at 154lbs. Jaron was outstanding in what turned out to be his last fight at 147lbs, but after listening to his body, it’s time to start the journey to two-weight glory, and I cannot wait to see what sort of animal this man will be at his new weight.
“But October 11 is a real test. Uisma has consistently won fights on hostile territory, and the big-hitting African is coming to Philly to make a name for himself and take those big fights that are there for Boots next.”
