Jarrell Miller Eyes Deontay Wilder Clash After Eliminator Win
Gary Cosby Jr. / USA TODAY NETWORK

NEW YORK — There were no hair piece malfunctions this time. As Jarrell Miller may have just punched his way into one of the biggest fights in American boxing. Following a unanimous decision victory over Lenier Pero in a WBA heavyweight title eliminator, Miller (28-1-2, 22 KOs) didn’t waste time calling out top names including Deontay Wilder.

Miller made it clear post-fight that Wilder is at the top of his list. “If you don’t shut your pie ass up and come fight me, boy,” Miller said, referencing past comments from Wilder about avoiding the matchup.

The Brooklyn native believes the fight has been brewing and now, there’s no reason to delay it.

Promoter Push Behind the Fight

Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn agrees. In fact, he sees Miller vs. Wilder as the fight to make for the American heavyweight scene. “You want a fight with great build-up… For me, it’s Deontay Wilder against Jarrell Miller,” Hearn said.

“Run it in New York that’s a serious fight.” With both fighters carrying name recognition and knockout power, the matchup checks every box: drama, stakes, and marketability.

Miller’s path to this moment wasn’t easy. Pero (13-1, 8 KOs) controlled the early rounds with clean boxing and sharp counters, but the tide turned as Miller began to impose his size and pressure. Once the fight moved inside, Miller took over.

  • Relentless volume
  • Heavy pressure against the ropes
  • A 50+ pound weight advantage

By the final rounds, it was a grueling, one-sided affair in Miller’s favor.

According to CompuBox:

  • Miller landed 290 punches to Pero’s 253
  • Threw 1,003 total punches (10th-most ever for a heavyweight)

Wilder Also Back in the Mix

Wilder (45-4-1, 43 KOs) is rebuilding momentum of his own. He’s currently on a two-fight win streak, most recently defeating Derek Chisora by split decision in April.

That sets the stage for a compelling collision:

  • Miller: pressure, volume, durability
  • Wilder: one-punch knockout power

This isn’t just a fight it’s a storyline.

  • Bad blood
  • Contrasting styles
  • High stakes in a wide-open heavyweight division

If made, Miller vs. Wilder could headline a major U.S. card and reenergize the domestic heavyweight scene.
