Jimuel Pacquiao Jr., prepares to make his professional debut on November 29 against Brendan Lally, as we preview the fight.
The event is being promoted by his father’s company, Manny Pacquiao Promotions, marking their first United States show, and Manny Sr. himself is expected to be ringside. Jimuel is making the jump to the pro ranks after three years in the amateur circuit, as he will naturally face comparisons with his father, who won world titles in eight weight classes. The younger Pacquiao’s debut also comes at an exciting time for his family after he welcomed his first child, his daughter, this month. Tickets for the event have sold out, putting the pressure on Pacquiao Jr. to perform. Lally also makes his pro debut, he will likely face a hostile crowd, with Pacquiao Jr. expected to receive more support.
“It’s a big moment for me, and I’m very excited to finally make my professional debut. My father has been a huge inspiration and a great mentor. I’ve learned so much from him, not just about boxing, but about dedication and hard work,” Jimuel
“Jimuel has been working hard over the last couple of years at the Wild Card”, said Gibbons. “He is very dedicated and devoted and is excited to make his pro debut”, he continued. “Fight fans are excited to watch the next generation of Pacquiao,” Sean Gibbons (MP Promotions President)
“Jimuel” Pacquiao Jr. has trained at the Wild Card Boxing Gym under the guidance of Marvin Somodio, so he is expected to employ a style focused on controlling the distance and showcasing solid fundamentals. Jimuel is highly likely to start the four-round bout cautiously, utilizing the jab to gauge range and manage his energy. The biggest challenge will be resisting the urge to emulate his father’s reckless, all-action style. His primary objective is to secure a clean, technically sound victory to silence critics and build confidence.
Lally’s best strategy will be to disrupt Jimuel’s rhythm and pressure the inexperienced pro early. Lally is expected to try to deny Jimuel the clean space to operate by applying immediate, ugly pressure, forcing the younger Pacquiao into a close-range, mauling fight that neutralizes speed and footwork. If Lally can land a surprising, hard counter or force a messy exchange early on, he introduces an element of doubt that he could exploit.
