Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao says he’ll be back in the ring January 24 in Las Vegas. With an opponent announcement expected in the coming days. The eight-division champion broke the news Tuesday in a social media post, promising “an exciting and special event.”

“Hello to all my boxing fans. I’m excited to let you know I will be returning to the ring January 24 in Las Vegas,” Pacquiao said. “It is going to be an exciting and special event. Stay tuned. More news to come on my opponent in the next few days.”

The frontrunner

While nothing is official, Rolando Romero has emerged as the leading candidate, per industry chatter. Following his upset of Ryan Garcia on May 2 in New York. A Pacquiao–Romero matchup would pit the Filipino icon’s experience and speed against Romero’s swagger and power in a high-visibility Las Vegas showcase.

Pacquiao’s recent form

Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs) ended a four-year retirement to face Mario Barrios on July 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Battling to a majority draw in a fight many observers felt Pacquiao edged. The bout came one month after his induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, an honor that underscored his two-decade reign as one of boxing’s most electrifying figures.

What it means

  • Legacy chapter: At 47, Pacquiao is writing a rare late-career addendum, testing himself against active contenders in a bustling welterweight scene.

  • Event magnitude: A Las Vegas date in January positions the bout as one of the sport’s first tentpoles of the year, with global interest guaranteed.

  • Style questions: If Romero lands the fight, his physicality and counter power present a different puzzle than Barrios—while Pacquiao’s angles, volume, and timing remain the X-factors.

What’s next

An official opponent and undercard details are expected shortly. Venue and broadcast specifics, as well as press tour plans, should follow the opponent reveal. For now, Pacquiao’s message is clear: the ring walk music is cued, and Las Vegas in late January belongs to “Pac-Man.”
