Mayweather Says Prince Naseem Isn’t Appreciated – ‘He Doesn’t Get The Props’

Floyd Mayweather Jr. believes Prince Naseem Hamed is underrated, stating British fans do not give him the credit he deserves.

Hamed, who was active from 1992 to 2002, unified world featherweight titles and ended his career with a 36-1 record, including 31 knockouts. Hamed captivated audiences with his power, angles, and theatrical ring entrances. At his peak, he was a pay-per-view superstar on both sides of the Atlantic. Mayweather insists the former champion should be held in higher esteem. The pair were linked with a fight, but it ultimately never happened, leaving fans wondering what could have been.

“Actually, it’s so crazy that Prince Naseem Hamed he doesn’t get the props he truly deserves. We still speak on a regular basis. [He was a] hell of a showman. A lot of the people in the UK forget about him. We need to give him his flowers – unbelievable! One of the best fighters to come from the UK if not the best,” Hamed said

The Approach

Hamed’s tactical approach would be built on overwhelming Mayweather with his unique and explosive offense. As a powerful southpaw, Hamed’s main tactical advantage was his concussive power and the unconventional angles from which he delivered it. He would likely use his dynamic footwork and feints to create openings and land a single, fight-ending knockout blow. Hamed would not be interested in outboxing Mayweather; his goal would be to force a brawl and catch the defensive master with a clean, devastating shot.

Mayweather’s tactical approach would be a masterclass in defense and counter-punching. Mayweather would likely use his footwork, shoulder roll, and ring IQ to neutralize Hamed’s unorthodox power. His strategy would be to stay out of range, make Hamed miss, and then land clean, precise counter-punches. Mayweather would not be in a rush; his goal would be to systematically pick Hamed apart, winning round after round while avoiding the devastating power of the “Prince.”
