On June 28, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA, Jake Paul vs Julio Chavez Jr will headline a Most Valuable Promotions event in association with CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy and Golden Boy Promotions. WBO & WBA unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez faces the former IBF & WBA cruiserweight world champion and the current WBA mandatory challenger Yuniel Dorticós in the co-main event. Ahead of “El Gallo” vs Chavez, former multi-weight world champion Roy Jones Jr has shared his honest take with Prime Casino on Paul’s potential to win a world title.
The June 28 card in Anaheim will air on DAZN PPV, with the co-main event featuring Gilberto Ramirez and Yuniel Dorticos. This will be Paul’s (11-1, 7 KOs) first fight since his historic, yet uncomfortable-to-watch win over Mike Tyson.
The main question ahead of this fight is: what does Chavez Jr (54-6-1, 34 KOs) have left? There’s no doubt Chavez has mixed at a higher level, having faced the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Sergio Martinez and Andy Lee – but a loss in recent years to Anderson Silva and a forgettable win over Uriah Hall have failed to convince that much remains.
When talking to Prime Casino, Jones Jr was clear on just how far he believes “El Gallo” can go: “The whole purpose [behind the fight] is creating the argument for Jake Paul to fight for a world title. That’s what he really wants to do. And it’s not bad the way he’s going about it.
“He’s creating that argument, and eventually, if he keeps going, he’ll get a shot.
“I ain’t gonna say that [he will win a title], but he’ll get a shot depending on who the opponent is, but he will get a shot, and he has the power to win anything. He can knock anybody out,” added Jones.
