Roy Jones Jr. is going to be more than a spectator at the upcoming Mike Tyson (50-6-2, 44 KOs) vs. Jake Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) showdown.
‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ is gearing up to face the ‘Problem Child’ at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on November 15, 2024. As the fight date quickly approaches, the broadcast team for the fight stream on Netflix was recently announced and it looks like Tyson’s former opponent has a rather unique role.
According to a report by Variety, Jones will join actress Rosie Perez for the ringside analysis of the fight. British broadcaster Kate Scott will serve as the primary host for the live broadcast of the event, while Canadian sports commentator Mauro Ranallo will lead the ringside play-by-play commentary. Boxing legend Andre Ward is also going to make his presence known by serving as the lead booth analyst. It is said that Tyson’s son, Amir Tyson, will play a substantial role in the broadcast by co-leading the preliminary card reporting with Sibley Scoles.
While he is all set to carry out his ringside duties, Jones also had a few words to say about the fight’s potential outcome. Jones, who previously fought Tyson in 2020, even revealed that ‘Iron Mike’ landed some of the heaviest fights that he had ever faced during their fight.
“I feel like I’ve got some of the fastest hands in boxing. I’m thinking, ‘No way in the world he can dodge my punches.’ But he was, he was able to dodge them and I was surprised. The first time he hit me in the chest, it was like a mule had kicked me in the chest at 57 years old! I said, ‘Oh my goodness, you ain’t going to hit me no more,’” he said while talking to Andre Ward for the ‘All the Smoke Fight’ show.
Jones further mentioned that while he has no doubt in Tyson’s skills, the 31-year age gap between Paul and him has certainly left him concerned. “If Mike is in shape enough to go the rounds, he probably can put Jake out at any time. But of course, at 58 or 59, however old he is, his timing ain’t the same, so it’s quicker for him to get it over with fast rather than wait a long time,” he said,
