OMAHA, Neb. — Former undisputed champion Terence Crawford has been found guilty of careless driving following a traffic stop that drew national attention last year.
A judge ordered Crawford to pay a $75 fine, along with $49 in court costs, stemming from the September 28 incident in his hometown of Omaha. The traffic stop occurred just hours after Omaha celebrated Crawford with a downtown parade honoring his victory over Canelo Alvarez.
That win was historic making Crawford the first male boxer to unify titles in three different weight divisions, further cementing his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats. According to reports, police initiated the stop after observing Crawford’s vehicle driving recklessly. What followed escalated rapidly.
During the stop:
Crawford later stated he attempted to inform officers that he also had a legally owned firearm. But communication between officers broke down in the moment.

Authorities later confirmed that all individuals in the vehicle were legally permitted to carry firearms. The incident prompted an internal review by the Omaha Police Department. After investigation, officials determined that officers acted lawfully during the encounter. Crawford was ultimately ticketed at the scene and released without further incident.
The ruling comes months after Crawford announced his retirement in December, finishing his career with a perfect 42-0 record and 31 knockouts.
While the legal matter adds an unexpected footnote, it does little to overshadow his accomplishments inside the ring where he built a résumé that places him among boxing’s elite.
For Crawford, the case is now resolved with a minor financial penalty. And as his boxing career transitions fully into the rearview mirror, the focus shifts from headlines outside the ring to the legacy he leaves behind inside it. An undefeated champion with one final chapter now officially closed.
