Tyson Fury activates rematch against Oleksandr Usyk with TWO dates being floated by the promoter

The many titles make it hard for even the most discerning fans to determine the best of the boxing crop. However, the heavyweight class is the brand of the four-belt era, and Oleksandr Usyk sits at the top of the world. Usyk overcame a slow start to knock down Tyson Fury and win a split decision to become the new undisputed champion. Now, the latter wants his rematch.

Soon after the match ended, Frank Warren, Fury’s co-promoter, reaffirmed a contractual rematch clause. When asked if he wanted an immediate rematch, Tyson Fury reiterated his desire to do it again. He even stated sympathetic scoring bias for the Russian-Ukraine war as the reason for his loss. Usyk, now 22-0-0 (14 KOs), thus gets to run it back again with the British heavyweight.

Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) has now triggered his clause with Usyk for an instant rematch. Promoter Bob Arum nudges that he has his safety net in place, meaning Fury can also face Anthony Joshua even if Usyk beats him again. The former WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO champ himself is fond of such a “Battle of Britain” to take place as well. Per sources, he and Oleksandr Usyk will run things back again soon.

Arum told talkSport Boxing that they would meet at the end of the year or early 2025. Michael Benson (@MichaelBensonn), the boxing editor for talkSport.com, reports the deeds on X. With a guaranteed Joshua fight, Fury thus bags a nice payday. As well as a chance to be A-side again; it might just happen he gets lucky in the scoring. But if ‘The Cat’ has taught anything, it’s not to count him out yet.

Oleksandr Usyk should maintain hold of the IBF title, Frank Warren argues

Frank Warren maintains undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk should hold on to his IBF strap. Overcoming a slow roll, he wobbled Tyson Fury and edged him to a points game last Saturday night in Riyadh. The 35-year-old Brit bagged a neat 114-113 on the judges’ scorecard. With a set of 115-112 and 114-113, Usyk won via split decision.

Moreover, it was a hard battle with extreme physicality. The overpowering Morecambe native looked to clinch the WBA (Super), IBF/WBO/IBO, and The Ring heavyweight titles out of Usyk’s hands. Hence, he gave it his all, even delivering a shattering uppercut in Round 6. With rumors of a broken jaw and quite the rigor, both boxers are undergoing a clinical suspension.

In the current fallout and chief support of the Fury-Usyk bout, ‘The Cat’ officially holds on to his IBF title for a week more. Warren says that he can’t defend his IBF title against his mandatory as an obligation. He also advocated a plan to have Usyk keep control of the IBF title.

He has been suspended, Oleksandr Usyk, …because of how tough the fight was…I think, for 40 or 45 days by the commission. So, he can’t be stripped at this stage of the game…because he’s not in a position to defend his title…That fight between Daniel [Dubois] and [Filip] Hrgovic [on June 1st] is a fantastic fight. The worst-case scenario is it’ll be an interim title fight. Whatever happens, if it goes ahead as an interim title fight… Frank Warren via Seconds Out Boxing (@boxing)

Usyk has already requested a waiver from the IBF to retain the belt. The IBF will make the decision soon enough. If they veer positively, Filip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois will meet without a title at stake or even an interim title at stake; Warren doubts either camp will be happy about it.
