British boxing fans are in for a domestic dust-up that promises fireworks as Willy Hutchinson faces off with Mark Jeffers this Saturday in Scotland.

Hutchinson (18-2, 13 KO’s), still just 25, is rebuilding his career with momentum after bouncing back from setbacks against Lennox Clarke and Craig Richards. Once regarded as one of the best young Scottish prospects of recent years, Hutchinson has shown he still carries the talent and spite in his punches to make a run at titles.

Jeffers (20-1, 7 KO’s) is making the jump up from super-middleweight to light-heavyweight. A disciplined and composed operator, the Chorley man has been steadily building his record with 20 wins from 21 fights, his only defeat coming against Zak Chelli in a hard-fought contest.

Willy Hutchinson vs Mark Jeffers: Analysis

This bout feels like clever matchmaking. Hutchinson’s come-forward, aggressive style and natural size at 175-pounds contrasts neatly with Jeffers’ more technical, tidy approach. The question is whether Jeffers can carry his effectiveness up a division, especially against someone who is naturally bigger and has shown genuine knockout power at the weight.

If Hutchinson can impose himself early and make Jeffers uncomfortable with pressure, the fight could swing heavily in his favour. But if Jeffers can maintain distance, work behind his jab, and avoid inside exchanges, he has every chance of boxing his way to a points victory.

While many may write Jeffers off at light-heavyweight due to his “lack of” power, he still hits relatively hard and he makes up for that low knockout rate with his work rate and his excellent ring craft.

Hutchinson vs Jeffers: Prediction & Betting Tips

This is one of those fights where both men have a lot to prove; Hutchinson wants to re-establish himself as a genuine light-heavyweight contender, while Jeffers is testing whether he belongs at this new weight. Hutchinson’s size and power look like the key factors, and over the course of the fight, it may be too much for Jeffers to handle.

The bookies have Hutchinson the clear favourite in this one, though whilst I agree he is the favourite, I don’t believe the odds should be this wide apart.

With all this in mind, I do think Hutchinson will get the job done, but I cannot see him stopping Jeffers as the Englishman is technically very good and he should be able to elude Hutchinson’s haymakers.

My pick is Willy Hutchinson to win by decision or technical decision at odds of 2.05 (Bet 365)
