William Zepeda and Tevin Farmer held their final presser, as they had plenty to say to each other before their Saturday fight.
Zepeda secured a win in their first fight via a split decision to extend his record to 32-0. It was not his finest performance, but this was largely due to Farmer’s impressive performance. He dropped Zepeda for the first time in his career, but the Mexican held on to get a decision. Zepeda knows a win puts him a step closer to facing the WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson, as Zepeda is currently the mandatory. The Zepeda loss was Farmer’s second in a row, putting a dent into his recent three-fight win streak. Farmer will back himself based on the first fight to outbox his man.
“This is very exciting for me. I’ve finally found somebody who will go toe to toe with me. I really had to look at chances and opportunities, and I’m now really excited to be able to show not only the same explosive ‘Camaron’ Zepeda, but someone that’s willing to work hard to take the win on March 29. I want to make sure I take the win that evening.
“It was a very tough test. It was 10 rounds of war, and I learned that I need to step up and it’s a lesson for me and a lesson for everybody that we’re not supposed to just let things go. I took that lesson, and I’m going to implement it on Saturday,” Zepeda
“Everyone forgets how I got my world title the first time. I went to the wolf’s den. I went to Australia and defeated Billy Dib to get my world title. I’m used to this. My whole career, I’ve been the underdog. I’ve never had a big promoter behind me so I had to get it the hard way and growing up in Philly is the wolf’s den itself and I was the wolf,” Farmer said
“t was a special night, because this fight stole the show. It was a fight that was back and forth. It was a fight that was, going, teeter-totter. Evenly matched. The skill sets that every fighter showed was incredible. We had to do the rematch. There’s no way around it. If you want to be the best, you gotta fight the best, and I truly feel that the winner on Saturday night will move on to bigger and better things. The fact that Farmer put on a tremendous, tremendous show, and William puts on a tremendous show every single time, we just had to come back here to Cancun and make it happen once again,” Oscar De La Hoya stated
