Zepeda vs Cabrera Fight Results: Zepeda Blasts Out Cabrera
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The lightweight division was tuned into DAZN as the number one contender for all four sanctioning bodies was fighting in the main event, and he didn’t disappoint. William Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs) made quick work of Giovanni Cabrera (22-2, 7 KOs) and knocked him out in the third round of their fight. It was an impressive victory for Zepeda as Cabrera went 12 rounds with the hard-hitting WBA super lightweight champion Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz in July 2023. Now Zepeda will have to see which one of the champions he wants to face next as he pushes for his mandatory position.

Cabrera came to fight, and in the first round, he landed three straight check right hooks that landed cleanly on Zepeda. Cabrera was in rhythm right away, while Zepeda couldn’t apply the pressure he was used to applying early on. Cabrera looked game, but it would be short-lived. In the second round, Zepeda came out firing and kept landing his straight left hand while stepping forward, which made Cabrera step back while receiving the punch. Zepeda appeared warmed up and brought a ton of pressure throughout the round. Cabrera had trouble blocking all of the punches that were coming at him.

In the third round, Zepeda landed a hard left hook to the body, making Cabrera fold while following it up with a right hook to the head and another left hook to the body, which sent Cabrera to the canvas on one knee. Cabrera could not get up and beat the ten-count, making Zepeda the winner by knockout. During the post-fight interview, Zepeda called out Vasyl Lomachenko for the fight he wanted, but Oscar De La Hoya called for Zepeda to possibly fight the WBO lightweight champion Denis Berinchyk.

A Horrible Stoppage Gives Ricardo Sandoval The TKO Victory

It’s unfortunate when the referee makes himself part of the fight, but that’s what Raul Caez Jr. did during the co-main. Ricardo Sandoval (25-2, 17 KOs) scored a tenth-round TKO victory over Angel “Tito” Acosta (24-5, 22 KOs) after the referee stopped the fight when Sandoval landed a punch.

There was a lot of feinting within the first round, but it was Acosta dictating the pace with his left jab, and when he landed his straight right hand, it wobbled Sandoval to the corner right before the bell rang to conclude the round. Acosta continued to dictate the pace during the second round and apply a ton of pressure. Sandoval tried to counter but was being smothered by Acosta. With ten seconds left, Sandoval landed a short right uppercut while close, which hurt Acosta.

Acosta used his footwork in the third round and left jab to get his punches off while not getting hit with anything big. Sandoval had trouble putting his punches together during the round. Sandoval made some small adjustments and kept the fight at mid-range for some of round four, but Acosta used his world-class experience to find his way and land his left and right hooks to the body and head of Sandoval.

Acosta countered his aggressive come-forward style in the fifth round, smothering all of Sandoval’s shots. While at mid-range, Sandoval landed some good left jabs and a straight right hand, but Acosta kept coming forward. Sandoval had a huge round six as he could finally shift and land some right uppercuts and overhand rights. Towards the end of the round, both fighters slugged it out all the way to the sound of the bell.

Sandoval continued to succeed through the seventh round as his punches were getting through the high guard of Acosta more and more. Acosta appeared a little tired, as his punches didn’t have the same snap as earlier. The eighth and ninth rounds were close, and in the tenth, Sandoval landed some big shots that buzzed Acosta, but the sequence that stopped the fight seemed extremely premature.

Manuel Flores Wipes out Nohel Arambulet In Two Rounds

Manuel Flores (18-1, 13 KOs) was just too much for Nohel Arambulet (23-7-2, 13 KOs) as he stopped him in the second round of their fight. Flores made his presence felt with a strong overhand left in the first round as Arambulet kept a high guard. Flores dictated the pace and never allowed Arambulet to get off any big shots. In the second round, it was a right hook to the body that led to two knockdowns, with the last forcing the referee to stop the fight.

Joel Iriarte Makes A Splash As DAZN Opener

Joel Iriarte (3-0, 3 KOs) makes quick work of Yaniel Alvarez (3-5-2, 1 KO) as he earned the second-round TKO victory. In the first round, Iriarte wasted no time landing a big right hand, which stunned Alvarez; after that shot, he just didn’t have his legs under him. Iriarte would continue to land bombs, and Alvarez had no defense against them. Iriarte poured it on in the second round, but Alvarez could not defend the offensive onslaught. Iriarte would then pound left and right hooks to the body, and as Alvarez slid on the ropes, the referee would stop the fight.
