No. 5 Arkansas scores nine unanswered to win series vs. No. 14 Mississippi State

After losing their SEC series against Kentucky last weekend, the Arkansas Razorbacks looked like they were going to drop two consecutive SEC series. The Razorbacks fell behind 6-0 early on in Sunday's rubber match, but an offense that had been the epitome of average for most of the season exploded when Dave Van Horn needed them to most.

Arkansas scored nine unanswered runs over the final six innings of play, with one run in the fourth, three in the fifth, four in the sixth and an insurance run in the seventh.

Peyton Holt's two-run homer gave the Razorbacks the lead in the sixth inning, and two of Arkansas' best bullpen arms in Will McEntire and Gabe Gaeckle closed out the series finale to give Arkansas their 42nd victory of the season, and 19th in conference play.

Gaeckle threw 34 pitches in his relief outing on Sunday, and while two Mississippi State batters reached base in the top of the ninth inning, a strikeout on a 2-2 count closed out a big win for Arkansas.

The Razorbacks final series of the 2024 regular season will be one of the top matchups in all of college baseball this season, as the Hogs will travel to College Station for a matchup with No. 3 Texas A&M. The Hogs and Aggies are the top two teams in the SEC West, and will be vying for a division title before the SEC Tournament.

The first game between Texas A&M and Arkansas will take place on Thursday, May 16, with first pitch coming at 8 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN2.
