The UConn Huskies men's basketball team entered the 2024-25 season on a quest for a three-peat. However, Dan Hurley's team has not gotten off to a great start.
The Huskies started 4-0, but then they lost three straight games to unranked teams in stunning fashion at the Maui Invitational. It started on Monday with an overtime loss to Memphis, then a loss to Colorado by one.
It was then capped off by an 18-point loss to Dayton in the final game in Maui.
After the game, Hurley's name was frequently mentioned on social media, and many fans mentioned the Los Angeles Lakers job after UConn's 0-3 trip to the Island.
"Maybe Dan Hurley should have taken that Lakers job," one fan said. "Dan Hurley is starting to regret not taking the Lakers job," wrote another.
"Dan Hurley passed up a bag and coaching the Los Angeles Lakers for an NIT bid season," said another fan. "Dan Hurley should have took the Lakers job. UConn is trash," another wrote after UConn's latest loss.
"Looks like Dan Hurley Should’ve Took The Lakers Money When They Offered It Bc UCONN Not Looking To Good," another mentioned.

Dan Hurley took UConn to back to back championships, people were calling him the next Billy Donovan and he turned down Kentucky and the Lakers.

Now he’s out here looking like Kevin Ollie 2.0…life comes at you fast.
After the Lakers moved on from Darvin Ham, Hurley was discussed as an option and even offered a six-year, $70 million deal to be the head coach. Hurley ended up turning down the job, deciding to stay at UConn after winning back-to-back national titles.
On the other hand, a bit of regression was expected from UConn after all of Stephon Castle, Donovan Clingan, Tristen Newton, and Cam Spencer went in the 2024 NBA draft.
Still, losing three straight games to unranked teams on a neutral floor is a surprising result.
UConn has a quick turnaround with a game against Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday before a string of Baylor, Texas, and Gonzaga over the next two weeks, so it will be interesting to see how Hurley's team responds to the losses.
