Arizona Wildcats head coach Tommy Lloyd knew it might happen, but it still stings. The Wildcats took a hit Monday afternoon when one of their most promising young players made his next move official.
Lloyd, entering his second season coaching in the Big 12 and his fifth overall at Arizona, will be without forward Carter Bryant for the 2025-26 season. Bryant announced on social media that he's declaring for the 2025 NBA Draft, a move widely expected by scouts and analysts following his strong finish to the season and growing draft buzz.
"GOD bless the dream chasers.." Bryant captioned his post.
Bryant played one season at Arizona, appearing in 37 games. He averaged 6.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 19.3 minutes per game. His final appearance came in the Sweet 16 loss to Duke, where he scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds in a 100-93 defeat. Two games earlier, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, he scored 12 points against Akron.
Arizona finished the season 24-13 and made it to the Sweet 16, showing flashes of elite potential during a strong tournament run.
Bryant’s decision to enter the draft wasn’t unexpected. In a recent poll of NBA draft prospects, he was voted the second-most underrated player. ESPN currently projects him to be selected 14th overall by the San Antonio Spurs.
His Arizona teammate, Caleb Love, praised Bryant’s upside:
"I think he's a sleeper. He's young. His potential is through the roof, and he's a catch-and-shoot. He can knock down and catch, and shoot. He's an athletic freak, and he can defend pretty much 1 through 5."
Lloyd has had a busy offseason, already losing multiple players to the transfer portal, including big man Henri Veesaar and key contributor KJ Lewis.
Arizona will look to reload in Lloyd’s second Big 12 campaign, but the loss of Bryant adds to the challenge of staying competitive in one of college basketball’s toughest conferences.
