Sophomore phenom JuJu Watkins and the No. 6 USC Trojans have been one of the best teams during the 2024-25 women's college basketball season. They will look for their fourth straight win on Sunday against the Washington Huskies.
On Thursday, Watkins led USC to its most impressive wins of the season, defeating the No. 1 UCLA Bruins 71-60. Watkins was playing at peak performance, recording 38 points on 12-of-26 shooting, 11 rebounds, five assists and eight blocks.
Coming into the game, Watkins had tallied eight college games with 30 or more points against ranked opponents in her first two seasons with USC. This was tied for the most such games in women's college basketball history with Iowa Hawkeyes legend Caitlin Clark, who currently plays with the Indiana Fever in the WNBA.
With her 38 points against UCLA, Watkins was able to surpass Clark for the most 30+ point games against a ranked opponent in a player's first two years, recording her ninth such game.

This is not the first time Watkins has broken a college basketball record previously held by Clark this season. In November, Watkins recorded her 1000th career point in her 38th game, becoming the fastest Power 5 (ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12) player to reach 1000 points. Clark held the previous record of 40 games.
On Feb. 2, Watkins and the Trojans got to witness history, watching Clark's jersey go up into the rafters at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Unfortunately for USC, it suffered its second loss of the season to Iowa, falling 76-69 during Clark's special day.
Through 24 games this season, Watkins has shown no signs of slowing down, averaging 24.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists. She has led USC to a 22-2 record, with its only losses coming against Iowa and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
