Xavier Restrepo NFL Draft Profile

  • College: Miami (FL)
  • College Position: WR (90%+ slot in 2023 and 2024)
  • Ideal NFL Position: Slot Receiver
  • Year / Age: Senior / 23
  • Height / Weight: 5'10" / 209 pounds
  • Draft Projection: Day 2
  • Where I’d Take Him: Round 3

Background

A three-star recruit out of Deerfield Beach High School, Xavier Restrepo was the 105th-rated prospect in Florida for the 2020 recruiting class (per 247Sports). Although he wasn't the top prospect, he committed to Miami, where he would later become the most productive receiver in the history of Miami football.

After a few quiet seasons to start his college career, Restrepo broke out in 2023, racking up more than 1,100 yards and six touchdowns on 85 catches. He followed that up with another 1,100-yard campaign in 2024, this time on only 69 receptions while increasing his touchdown total to 11.

At 5’10” and 209 pounds, he’s built like a slot receiver, albeit maybe a little on the heavier side. But that size gives him a sturdy base, and he’s tough to knock off his spot. He’s not a burner, but his short-area quickness and football IQ allow him to create separation against both man and zone coverage.

Strengths

  • Restrepo is a route-running technician with a good understanding of leverage and spacing.
  • He has extremely reliable hands, with a drop rate below 5% in the last two seasons.
  • Restrepo is a serious threat against both man and zone coverage.
  • He knows how to set up defenders to create separation.
  • His sturdy frame allows him to hold up inside better than most, and he has better YAC than he’s been given credit for.
  • Miami’s all-time leader in catches and receiving yards.

Weaknesses

  • He is strictly a slot player, rarely playing outside.
  • Restrepo lacks the high-end deep speed to threaten vertically.
  • He probably plays a little heavier than necessary.
  • An older prospect, turning 23 before his rookie season starts.

Final Thoughts and Chicago Bears Fit for Xavier Restrepo

The Bears currently don’t have a true slot receiver, and Xavier Restrepo’s game fits exactly how new head coach Ben Johnson utilized Amon-Ra St. Brown in Detroit. He’s a polished route-runner who wins with quickness, nuance, and strong hands.

While he’s not a game-breaking athlete, he consistently gets open and makes the catches you need on third downs and in high-leverage situations. His willingness to go over the middle makes him an option-route nightmare, and you absolutely cannot put a linebacker on this guy. Restrepo plays with the same toughness and feel for spacing that made all those Patriot slot receivers great for years.

Restrepo is a guy I think the Bears strongly consider selecting. We know Ben Johnson would know how to use him, and Restrepo could replace Keenan Allen as the guy Caleb Williams looks to when he needs a short-yardage bucket. He’s not flashy, but he’s the kind of guy quarterbacks love to have on the field when the game is on the line.

I’d keep my eye on pick 72.

Player Comp: Amon Ra St.Brown
