Can Kalen DeBoer's new pass happy offense get the Crimson Tide back where they want and need to be in 2024?
Yes, Jalen Milroe connected on some deep shots with Jermaine Burton and Isaiah Bond in 2023. And that was good enough to get the team to the College Football Playoff. But! The team only averaged 23 pass attempts per game last fall, and now the top three receiving options from last year have left for the NFL or the Transfer Portal. The good news is, DeBoer's new pass happy offense already seems to be clicking with the wide receivers at spring practice and the first big scrimmage.
Kobe Prentice, the most experienced returning wide receiver, was apparently making plays left and right this week. And he even went viral for making a one-handed OBJ-style grab on a pass from Jalen Milroe (as you can see in the post below).

Prentice will be a huge key to Alabama's offense finding success. Throughout his first two seasons Prentice has logged nearly 500 offensive snaps and racked up over 600 receiving yards, but he'll likely now operate as the team's leader through the air.
Germie Bernard, a transfer who followed new head coach Kalen DeBoer from Washington will also definitely be leaned on. And according to Wesley Neighbors of ESPN Radio (former player, close to the team) Bernard is already "the real deal" in spring practices, and that the offense is focusing on getting the ball out quickly, which perfectly suits Bernard's game.
Kendrick Law also figures to to be a high snap count wide receiver as well given that DeBoer's new scheme is almost exclusively 11-personnel (3 WRs, 1 RB, 1 TE). He reportedly is showing "easy speed" and has been a "leader among leaders" this spring according to new wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard. He's been working hard, learning the offense quickly.
But the best wide receiver to grace the Alabama receiver room this fall might not even be on campus yet. Ryan Williams, a five star who reclassified to get to college a year early is set to join the Crimson Tide this summer. If Prentice, Bernard, and Law are all three going to be good already, then a five star talent joins the fold, we might see Alabama have a receiver group closer to the elite offenses that Crimson Tide fans are used to seeing in recent years.
