As the Wisconsin Badgers continue to work through the 2027 class, a top edge rusher has remained a top option for the team moving forward.
Recarder Kitchen, a 2027 four-star edge rusher from Muskegon, Michigan, is widely considered to be one of the top players at the position in his class. Kitchen is currently ranked as the 102nd overall recruit, 13th edge rusher, and second-ranked player in the state of Michigan. Kitchen sits behind only wide receiver Dakota Guerrant, a top 50 recruit in the class.
Kitchen is not only a highly ranked recruit, but also a highly recruited individual with 25 scholarship offers and counting already. Some of the programs who have offered the recruit include Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Penn State, Missouri, and Tennessee. The latest program to offer Kitchen was North Carolina, but the recruit has already begun to somewhat shape the next steps in the recruiting process.
The talented defender was in attendance for the Penn State whiteout game against Oregon and had also visited Michigan. Kitchen has visited Michigan four times in the past and Penn State twice as he becomes more familiar with each program. Wisconsin has been a program that has remained in the picture for Kitchen, and the recruit had the pleasure of visiting the program in June.
At this moment, the current top programs for Kitchen appear to be Penn State, Michigan, Louisville, and Wisconsin. Kitchen has visited each program, some multiple times, and additionally has notable relationships with each coaching staff. Kitchen has not cut down on his programs yet, but if things were to change today the Badgers would appear to still be in the picture.
While programs like Penn State, Michigan, and Louisville have all intrigued Kitchen for different reasons, the Badgers have kept an excellent relationship with the recruit that could be what pulls the program closer.
Coach Luke Fickell has personally been involved with some of the top recruiting options Wisconsin is eyeing in the 2027 class. Fickell speaks with every recruit, but with Kitchen and fellow four-star Israel Abrams the coach has been the primary contact. The coach wants both recruits, but whether or not he will land commitments from them is a question that involves having to improve the play on the field.
The Badgers are off to a tough 2-3 start with three straight losses where the offense was not able to muster up much. Firing Fickell is unlikely this season due to his expensive buyout regardless of further results, but losing out on recruits and commitments is very possible.
The Iowa Hawkeyes visit town this weekend and after losing 42-10 at Kinnick last season, Wisconsin needs to win to cool things off on and off of the field.
