College Football Hot Takes After An Electric Week One

College Football is back in full swing. Week One was packed full of action from Friday to Monday, with more games than the average human can consume. The first weekend of meaningful College Football games featured both good and bad games, like every week. It’s nice to have football back. These are hot takes from opening weekend.

5. Carson Beck Is Good

The tenth-ranked Miami Hurricanes knocked off the sixth-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sunday night, and Carson Beck played great in his first game as a Hurricane. He completed 20 of 30 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns. Beck is a polarizing prospect. Many people don’t think he’s good, but he proved all the haters wrong in Week One. Notre Dame didn’t have answers for Miami.

4. Alabama Is Phony

The Alabama Crimson Tide got trampled by the Florida State Seminoles 31-17 in Week One of the College Football season. Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos talked smack about Alabama all offseason and then backed it up. Crimson Tide’s head coach, Kalen DeBoer, deserves to be on the hot seat. He’s in over his head in Tuscaloosa. He now has four losses in games where his team is a 14-point favorite. Nick Saban must be disheartened about the state of the program he built.

3. LaNorris Sellers Is The Guy

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is a raw athlete, but the kid is gifted. He’s everything that fans thought Anthony Richardson would be. His game shows shades of Cam Newton. Sellers led the South Carolina Gamecocks to a 24-11 win to open the College Football season. He completed 12 of 19 passes for 209 yards and a 64-yard passing touchdown to Nyck Harbor. On the ground, Sellers rushed the ball 13 times for 25 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown scamper to open the game.

2. Arch Manning Will Be Fine

Texas quarterback Arch Manning played a rough game in Week One. The Texas Longhorns lost 14-7 to the Ohio State Buckeyes, and it wasn’t pretty. Manning played badly, but it was his first career road start, in Ohio State, against the defending National Champions, who should have been ranked number one. Steve Sarkisian deserves some blame. The Longhorns’ offensive game plan was terrible. It’s not shocking to see Sarkisian falter in a big game.

1. LSU Is A Serious Contender

The Louisiana State Tigers walked into Death Valley in Week One of the College Football season and walked out with a 17-10 win over the Clemson Tigers. Garrett Nussmeier looked great, passing for 230 yards and a touchdown. LSU’s defense looked stout. They have a couple of players who deserve to be first-round picks. Whit Weeks and Harold Perkins will be playing on Sundays in the near future. LSU will be a contender in 2025 after securing its first Week One win since Joe Burrow was the quarterback.

End Of My College Football Rant

Social media never fails to jump the gun on takes. They killed Arch Manning for his performance in Week One, but that won’t define him for the rest of his career. Everybody counted Carson Beck out, but he proved them wrong. Anything can happen the rest of the season, but these takes feel accurate after Week One of College Football.
