Deion Sanders Makes Unexpected Press Conference Move After ESPN Report
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

One of the most significant talking points in college football this week is the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback situation.

Third-year coach Deion Sanders made an unprecedented decision to rotate three quarterbacks throughout the team's 31-7 win over Delaware, and the experiment yielded some highly unexpected results.

Despite most fans assuming that the starter and Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter or five-star freshman Julian Lewis would run away with the job, it was actually the third-string quarterback Ryan Staub who made the most noise. The former backup to Shedeur Sanders completed 7-of-10 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns, while even seeing the crowd chant his name in the process.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported on Tuesday that Staub was expected to start in Friday's game against Houston, only for Coach Prime to deny the report and reveal he has yet to decide.

In addition to denying the report, Sanders also ended his press conference after he was asked what he liked about each of the three quarterbacks, jokingly calling it a "setup" question before exiting the podium with a grin.

"What did I like about each of the quarterbacks," Sanders asked. "That's a setup. God bless you all."

While Sanders is unwilling to commit to a quarterback before Friday, he did admit that Staub had received the majority of the reps with the starters. Sanders also said after Saturday's game that he had a plan, but just wouldn't share it.

“I know exactly how I’m going to handle the quarterback situation,” Sanders said. “I’m not going to say it. But yeah, I’m not lost for direction.”

The Buffs will be hitting the road for the first time this season, taking on a Houston Cougars squad that ESPN BET has as 5.5-point favorites. In term's of the quarterback situation, it appears it'll be revealed when Colorado first takes the field.
