Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia is an intriguing quarterback prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft, with playmaking instincts and toughness that will earn plenty of fans in draft rooms throughout the league. After a fantastic 2025 campaign for the Commodores, Pavia is a late-round draft hopeful who is hoping to parlay last year's stellar run into a successful career at the next level.
Here's everything NFL fans need to know about Pavia heading into this year's draft:
Height: 6-0
Weight: 207
Age: 23
A dynamic playmaker, Pavia has a knack for escaping chaos in the pocket and still creating moments for the highlight reel, both as a runner and a passer. He shows flashes of the ability to stretch opposing defenses over the top with the deep ball, taking advantage of favorable 1-on-1 matchups and giving his receivers the opportunity to make big plays downfield. He’s tough and competitive, with a fiery playing style that sets the tone for the entire team. He’s comfortable making presnap checks at the line of scrimmage, putting his teammates in the best position to be successful based on what he’s seeing from the defense.
There are clear physical limitations here. Pavia’s lack of ideal size presents the usual challenges when it comes to seeing over the trenches and avoiding tipped passes at the line of scrimmage, and he lacks the arm strength to consistently deliver the ball with enough juice on deep and even intermediate routes, something that will be even more troublesome against NFL defenders. Complex post-snap changes can challenge his ability to process on the fly from the pocket, and can lead to Pavia bailing from the pocket too early when the picture changes late.
Last year’s Heisman Trophy runner-up, Pavia was as entertaining as any player in college football last season, but that doesn’t always translate to the next level. His undersized frame and lack of high-end arm talent limit his NFL ceiling, and he’ll need to develop quicker processing skills if he wants to successfully decipher pro defenses. There’s enough value to his toughness, competitiveness, and playmaking ability to warrant a roster spot, though.
